Concert of Russian and Gypsy Folk Music, Song and Dance

The Atlanta Balalaika Society will present a concert of Russian and Gypsy folk music, song and dance on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 7:30pm at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center, 950 Forrest St., Roswell, GA 30075. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling (404) 325-2449, with a credit card at www.atlantabalalaika.com, or in the lobby with check or cash one hour prior to the performance. Adult tickets are $20, students and seniors $18.

 

The concert will feature the internationally acclaimed Russian-Romani (Gypsy) ensemble, Via Romen, with Vadim Kolpakov, Russian-Romani seven-string guitar, vocals and dance; Arkadiy Gips, violin; Oleg Timofeyev, Russian seven-string guitar; and vocalist Eugenia Zolotariova.The Atlanta Balalaika Society will perform with domra virtuoso Angelina Galashenkova-Reed.

The Atlanta Balalaika Society, now in its 31st year, is one of the largest orchestras of Russian folk instruments outside of Russia, and is the primary promoter of Russian folk culture in the Southeast. Colorfully dressed in traditional folk costumes, the orchestra performs on balalaikas, domras, and bayans (Russian button accordions), along with other ancient wind and percussion instruments.The evening’s performance will be conducted by David C. Cooper.
