The 37th Annual Ms. Georgia Nursing Home Pageant

Age and beauty go hand-in-hand. Established in 1976 by the Georgia Health Care Association (GHCA) and the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree Atlanta, this year’s 37th annual Ms. Georgia Nursing Home Pageant will be host to 19 regional nursing home pageant winners throughout Georgia – but only one will be named the statewide winner.

This year’s pageant contestants range in age from 47 to 94, and they will be judged on criteria, such as personality and physical appearance in relation to age; alertness and ability to communicate; participation in nursing home activities; attitude toward life; and demonstrated interest and continued contributions to others.

Held at the Evergreen Resort at Stone Mountain Park, the pageant will be presided over by Jon Howell, President and CEO of GHCA and the event’s emcee, for the 21st year in a row, is Paul Ossmann, weather anchor for 11 Alive News. Miss Georgia 2010, Christina McCauley, will present the 2011 pageant winner with her crown. Last year’s winner, Tiny Smaha, 94, from Carlyle Place in Macon, will participate in the crowning ceremony. The Marines Air Group 42 from NAS Marietta will escort the 19 contestants across the stage to the musical stylings of pianist Kenneth Cliett.
