Roswell Riverside Sounds Concert Series Starts Saturday

Residents have just three more days to wait for the return of the Roswell Riverside Sounds concert series. 

The inaugural concert for the 2014 season will be held on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Riverside Park. The park is at 575 Riverside Road. 

Actor and musician Chris Thomas King will perform at the free outdoor concert for the series, which will be held on the first Saturday of each month through October. 

Food trucks will also be on site for residents to utilize . 

“We are excited to have Chris Thomas King back with us again this year,” said Morgan Timmis, historic and cultural affairs manager at the city of Roswell. “His concert scheduled for last year was rained out, and we are excited he was able to come back for a do-over.” 

King has developed a singular sound and style that transcends his blues roots. Born in Baton Rouge where his father, Tabby Thomas, owned a club called Tabby’s Blues Box, King embarked on his music career at an early age.

King signed a major recording contract with Warner Brothers in 1989 and headlined a national tour to support the release of his follow-up “Cry of the Prophets.” 

King’s major acting debut in the 2001 film "O Brother, Where Art Thou" gained him an international mainstream audience. King played the role of Tommy Johnson, a true-to-life blues singer from the 1930s. 

While filming, he wrote an album of songs called "Legend of Tommy Johnson – Act 1: Genesis, 1900-1990s." King’s new album, “Antebellum Postcards,” incorporates folk, blues and rock. As an actor, King has a role in the HBO series “Treme,” and he continues to compose music for Hollywood films.
