Weekend Getaways: The Circus Arts Institute

Kids of all ages can learn trapeze, Spanish web, juggling and more!

If you've ever wanted to run away to the circus, now's your chance! And you don't actually have to run away; just drive to the Circus Arts Institute in Atlanta.

The Circus Arts Institute offers unique fitness classes that are fun - and a serious work-out.

I know, because I just had my third class and I'm still sore.

Each class starts with an extensive warm-up and lots of stretching. Then students are divided into groups based on skill level to take turns mastering a variety of equipment, both aerial and ground. My favorite is the low trapeze, which is a lot like playing on the trapeze of a kid's playground. There's also Spanish Web, a thick rope that you can climb up and use to do tricks. Don't worry, climbing the Spanish Web isn't as difficult as it sounds!

On the ground, students learn juggling, balance boards, hand acrobatics and tightrope, depending on the teachers and student interest. You'll be amazed at what you can do in just 90 minutes.
