Georgia Shifts on Animal Protection Laws

The Humane Society of the United States recently released its 2011 "Humane State Ranking," placing Georgia at 25.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) recently released its 2011 "Humane State Ranking," placing Georgia at 25.

The comprehensive report rates all 50 states and the District of Columbia on a wide range of animal protection laws from animal fighting and farm animals to wildlife and companion animals.

Georgia received a score of 27 out of 66, which is an increase from 2010.

According to HSUS, Georgia bans the private possession of dangerous wild animals as pets, canned hunts and the state recently upgraded the dogfighting law.
