Miriam Salpeter Networks Her Way to Success

Coach, speaker and author, Miriam Salpeter uses social networking to connect and for career success.

What is your business and how long have you been doing it?

Keppie Careers is a job search and social media consultancy I launched in 2003. I work with people - job seekers and small business owners - who want to stand out from the crowd in a competitive environment. I transform resumes, offer mock interviews, provide professional websites, or social resumes, create LinkedIn and Twitter profiles and teach clients everything they need to know to succeed in landing their targeted job or clients.

What makes you good at what you do?

I'm lucky because my work allows me to combine my best skills - writing, editing, communicating and teaching! My formal training in career coaching comes from my master's degree from Columbia University, which I earned after several years working as an editor on Wall Street. I came to Atlanta to work at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health, where I headed up the career programs for students. More recently, I taught myself how to leverage social media by engaging online myself and becoming an integral part of the digital career community. I blog and connect with colleagues and clients via all the major social media tools.

When I was writing my first book, Social Networking for Career Success (Learning Express, 2011), I incorporated up-to-the-minute information about how to use LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and other tools to create an authentic, useful resource for job seekers and business owners. Part of what makes me good at what I do is that I actively use online tools to build my own reputation, and then I use my experience to help clients. I have been tapped as an expert source by major media, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and CNN.

How did you end up in Roswell area?

After living in New York City for several years, I knew I wanted a change. The opportunity at Emory was a perfect match, so I moved here with my husband and our cat to try Southern living. We haven't looked back; this is a wonderful place to be!

What new hobbies or classes have you recently taken up?

I am always learning new things via social media. Pinterest.com is the latest "big thing." It's an online community where you essentially create virtual, visual pin boards of things you like to share with your friends. I'm exploring how job seekers and business owners can leverage it to help them make new connections and expand their networks. I think it can be a lot of fun - a bit of an artistic outlet - so I'm considering it a new hobby!

How can people find you?

Please connect via my website and blog. I am very active on Twitter, and I try to respond to any questions people send via that network.

I'm very excited to offer job seekers information about how to leverage social media to succeed with their plans! One of the reasons I am passionate and excited about social networking is because of its potential to significantly improve a job seeker's options. It's not rocket science, but it isn't totally intuitive, either, so this class should make a real difference for anyone serious about job searching effectively and efficiently!
