North Fulton Hospital Awarded an "A" for Patient Safety

The score was calculated under the guidance of he Leapfrog Group's Blue Ribbon Expert Panel.

has been honored with an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national nonprofit leader and advocate in hospital transparency.

In its North Fulton County primary service area, North Fulton Hospital is the only hospital to receive an “A” and one of only a handful to do so in the metro Atlanta area.

The Hospital Safety ScoreSM was calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. Hospitals are assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their safety.

"Patient safety and quality are central to everything we do at North Fulton Hospital,” said Deborah C. Keel, CEO of the hospital. “The Leapfrog Group's recognition publicly acknowledges the commitment of both medical staff and all hospital staff who ‘blow the whistle’ for patient safety each and every day."

With its goal of saving lives by reducing injuries, accidents and preventable medical and medication errors, The Leapfrog Group focuses on measuring and publicly reporting hospital performance through the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The survey is a trusted, transparent and evidence-based national tool in which more than 1,100 hospitals voluntarily participate free of charge.

Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. The panel includes John Birkmeyer (University of Michigan), Ashish Jha (Harvard University), Lucian Leape (Harvard University), Arnold Millstein (Stanford University), Peter Pronovost (Johns Hopkins University), Patrick Romano (University of California, Davis), Sara Singer (Harvard University), Tim Vogus (Vanderbilt University), and Robert Wachter (University of California, San Francisco).
