Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive Benefits Local Food Pantries

Just in time for National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day, Saturday, April 2, Bank of North Georgia will host its Fourth Annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive to benefit 30 local food pantries.

Recognizing the need for food that offers good nutrition to children, the Bank of North Georgia is focusing on a staple lunchtime classic – peanut butter and jelly.

Now in its fourth year, the bank will host its fourth annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive from April 2-30 to benefit local charities within North Georgia, including Roswell's North Fulton Community Charities.

"Our team members are passionate about making a difference in the local communities we serve," said Rob Garcia, President and Chief Operating Officer of Bank of North Georgia. "The challenging economy has caused more and more families to reach out to local food banks for assistance and we felt compelled to take action. Our team has a genuine soft-spot for kids and we want to be sure they have the nutritious food they need to get through the day energized and excited to learn.”

Since the program was created in 2008, the bank has collected more than six tons of peanut butter and jelly. Last year alone, Bank of North Georgia collected nearly three tons of peanut butter and jelly during the drive. Using approximately two ounces of peanut butter and jelly on each sandwich, that is enough to make 46,297 sandwiches for children in metro Atlanta.

Seven local schools will partner with the bank  to hopefully gather even more peanut butter and jelly this year. The schools participating include: Chrysalis Experiential Academy in Roswell, Central Elementary School in Carrollton, Crabapple Lane Elementary School in Peachtree City, Jasper Middle School, Marietta Middle School, Mt. Bethel Elementary School in Marietta and Porterdale Elementary School in Covington.

"The impact will be tremendous," Garcia said.

Local residents and bank customers are encouraged to visit any of the 42 branches and drop off as much peanut butter -creamy and crunchy - and jelly - any flavor - as they can carry, according to a statement by the bank.
