Revved Up Kids Teaches Children Self Defense Technique

Upcoming classes will be held Saturday, April 21, at East Roswell Park for six through 10-year-olds and girls ages 13 and up.

With the recent rash of attempted child abductions around the metro area, some local parents are looking for ways to keep their children safer. Many believe they've found it in Revved Up Kids.

The organization is offering several single session self-defense classes this coming Saturday, April 21, taught by Revved Up Kids experts at .

The first session, a three hour class from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for 6-10 year olds, calls for parents and kids to attend together. Parental involvement is important since most young children won’t retain the lessons unless they are continually reinforced, say the experts at Revved Up Kids. The training provides the foundation and the parents have the tools to keep reinforcing the learning at home.

The class offers kids a lot of great information about how to recognize a predator, even if it's someone they know. It also teaches how to injure and escape that predator if he is trying to hurt them. The kids’ favorite part is when they get to practice the physical self-defense skills full force on an instructor and on a punching dummy.

Teen girls can also take a Revved Up Kids self-defense class, called "Just Yell Fire" later that afternoon from 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. This class teaches girls ages 13 and up how to stand up and fight back if someone is trying to attack them, whether that person is a stranger or a dating partner. Girls learn simple, intuitive self-defense techniques that can injure a much larger, stronger attacker and allow them to escape the situation.
