Roswell Has Lowest Unemployment Rate for North Fulton

Roswell's rate for January 2014 rose slightly to 5.2 percent from the 5 percent rate it had in December 2013.

While the city of Roswell's unemployment rate rose for the month of January, it still remains the lowest in north Fulton County.

The city's rate for January was 5.2 percent, which is higher than the previous month's rate of 5 percent, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. In comparison, Roswell's rate for January 2013 was 6.6 percent.

Unemployment rates for surrounding cities for the month of January include Alpharetta at 5.4 percent, Dunwoody at 5.3 percent, Johns Creek at 5.8 percent, Kennesaw at 7.3, Marietta at 7.2 and Sandy Springs at 5.7 percent.

Milton's numbers are not made available by the Georgia Department of Labor.

The metro Atlanta unemployment rate also rose in January to 7.2 percent from 6.8 percent in December.

The Georgia Department of Labor said the metro rate increased because the area lost mostly 39,700 seasonal jobs, and the total number of jobs dipped to 2.40 million from 2.44 million in December.
