Roswell Resident Competes in 'Battle of the Atlanta Lawyers' Bands'

"Along for the Ride" will perform with seven other competitors in the third annual "Battle of the Atlanta Lawyers' Bands" at Variety Playhouse on June 9.

Roswell resident Scott Hitch and his band, "Along for the Ride," will compete in the Atlanta Bar Foundation's third annual "Battle of the Atlanta Lawyers' Bands" at LawJam 2012.

The music event - set for Saturday, June 9, at Variety Playhouse - has quickly become a fan favorite. Last year’s event featured eight bands competing in front of a packed house of more than 600 audience members.

Hitch, who plays guitar and sings lead vocals, is a lawyer with Burr & Forman LLP, when he's not onstage. His band, Along for the Ride, formed a little over three years ago and includes some of his friends since college: A.C. Johnson, lead and slide guitars; Brendan Parnell, bass; Craig Savage, drums; Patrick Webb, acoustic and electric guitars, vocals. The band plays a mix of rock, jam, and alternative-country tunes.

The eight bands competing in the battle are: Along for the Ride, Class Action, Marshall Seese and the Abandoned, R & B Inc., Section 8, Signal Flow, Specific Deviations and The Working Class.

Each band will play a 20-minute set and compete for bragging rights while giving back to the Atlanta community. Between sets, celebrated entertainment lawyers Darryl B. Cohen of Cohen Cooper Estep & Whiteman LLP, Lisa F. Moore of The Moore Firm and Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, and radio host Kaedy Kiely from 97.1 FM The River, will serve as judges and offer comments while scoring the acts. But the judges' scores are just half of each band's total points, with the remainder coming from audience “Chicago-style” votes at $1 per vote.

LawJam 2012 will raise funds through sponsorships, hosts and ticket sales, together with additional donations at the event. The event proceeds will go to support Atlanta youth programs and free legal services for low income citizens.

LawJam 2012, Third Annual Battle of the Atlanta Lawyers’ Bands costs $10 per ticket through May 31, $20 after. It takes place, Saturday, June 9, from 7 p.m. to midnight at Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Avenue NE in Atlanta. Purchase tickets online at www.variety-playhouse.com.
