'Sweet!' Shop Opens on Canton Street

Curious passersby and treat enthusiasts have been anticipating Sweet! Roswell ever since the coming-soon sign went up this summer. Finally the wait is over, the Canton Street boutique candy and ice cream shop has its soft opening set for Friday, Oct. 19.

Sweet! is the realization of a long-time dream for Karen Braddy, who had plenty of experience dealing with others' start-up initiatives. After she was laid off from a 22-year career as the general manager for the Manheim division of Cox Enterprises, Braddy focused less on the loss and more on what she had gained: the opportunity to go into business for herself.

"I’ve always been a candy connoisseur and so has my 10-year-old son Zac," said told Roswell Patch. "Being a single parent, I wanted to stay within city limits of Roswell to enable me to stay involved in our community, involved with Zac and our schools, as well as launch a new business." 

Braddy, who is a very involved parent at Roswell North Elementary, said owning a business on Canton Street was a natural choice.

"Canton Street and downtown Roswell have turned into a fabulous destination restaurant area and because the Roswell Business Alliance and the city have done such a great job of marketing the town, I felt it really needed a candy and ice cream shop," she said. "It’s always been a dream of mine to open a business in historic Roswell and when the opportunity to invest in my community presented itself, I just couldn’t pass it up."

Within easy walking distance from the center of historic Roswell, the boutique candy shop features over 150 types of self-serve bulk candy, "gummy" candy and nostalgic candy favorites. There are also eight flavors of ice cream from local Atlanta creamery, Greenwoods, high-end chocolates from local chocolatiers, cotton candy, popcorn and baked goods from Sweet Little Bites and Saint Rita’s Cakes, according to Braddy. 

"It caters to the kid in all of us and will focus on offerings that are kid centric," said said.

Indoor and outdoor seating will allow customers to sip a cup of coffee or a glass of tea while shopping unique gifts from local artists, Braddy says. Sweet! will also sell gift baskets for all occasions.  

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28.

The Canton Oaks store is located at 1144 Canton Street, Suite 105 in Roswell.
