Table & Main Team to Open Italian Restaurant on Canton Street

Table & Main Operator Ryan Pernice tells Roswell Patch why they're opening a new restaurant in historic Roswell. The restaurant is set to open summer 2013 in the former Caravita Home location on Canton Street.

The culinary team at Table & Main is at it again; and this time they're serving up Italian.

are launching a new Italian restaurant called Osteria Mattone at 1095 Canton Street, tentatively set to open during the summer of 2013.

"Osteria Mattone will be a neighborhood-focused Italian osteria serving rustic Italian pastas and wood-fired entrees," Pernice told Roswell Patch in an e-mail.

The red brick house, which sits adjacent to , was formerly occupied by and partially inspired the new restaurant's name: mattone, the Italian word for brick, says the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

"We decided on that space for two reasons," said Pernice. First "Canton Street has been very good to us. Ted and I decided that the best way to say 'thank you' is with a big bowl of pasta; and [secondly], we have the opportunity to work with the same landlord/developer as Table & Main: New Kent Capital. They were a great landlord to work with last time, so that made our decision much easier."

The space will undergo a complete renovation and include spacious outdoor seating, much like the duo did with the Table & Main building.

Osteria Mattone will include a wood-burning oven as a focal point of not only the menu, but also the concept and renovated design. Italian wines, handmade pastas and wood-fired pizzas made with fresh, local ingredients will be staples on the menu.

"We hope to include a dine-in wine cellar, as wine is a big part of any osteria," said Pernice. "I also hope to bring Canton Street its first taste of Amaro, a delicious Italian digestif that I fell in love with at my previous job, Maialino."

But, said Pernice, one of the best things about the new restaurant is a location that allows for a large, private parking lot - something very few Canton Street shops have.

Osteria Mattone will tentatively open in the summer of 2013.
