New Pediatric Hippotherapy Business Opens in Johns Creek

Big Stride Therapy opened its doors in August 2013, offering pediatric hippotherapy to the North Fulton County area and beyond. Owner Bernie DeWit explains that hippotherapy is an occupational or physical therapy session using the movement of the horse. It is an excellent tool for increasing trunk strength and control, balance, building overall postural strength & endurance, addressing weight bearing, and motor planning. Equine movement offers well-modulated sensory input to vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile and visual channels.

Bernie DeWit OTR/L has been practicing Hippotherapy since 2002 and Occupational Therapy since 1988. She is a level 2 registered American Hippotherapy Association Therapist and a PATH International certified and registered instructor. She has extensive experience working with children in a variety of settings.
