Fantastic Farmers Market Finds

We are so blessed to have such a bounty of fresh local produce and delicious products in our own backyard.

Roswell's Riverside Farmers' Market has a wonderful variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and other products that I had not found in large chain grocery stores.

The first unusual item I found was a beautiful bright yellow watermelon.

The farmer was so happy to chat about his wares and told me that the yellow melons have much thinner rinds and therefor are harder to transport. They tend to bust open during transit, so large grocery chains tend not to bother with them.  He cut a generous piece for me to taste and it was sweet, juicy and delicious. The farmer didn't have many of the yellow watermelons left so I bought one right away and hauled it back to my car, then returned to the market for more shopping.  Luckily it's not a long walk back to the conveniently located parking lot.

Several of the farmers had varieties of red beans, the most intriguing were the red yard long beans that I had not seen before.  Mushroom varieties beyond the button made an appearance.  Chanterelle and oyster mushrooms were a welcome sight at our little market. There were even cute, round little lemon cucumbers.

There are also lots of Georgia made prepared food to try.  Sauces and salsas, breads and cheese, cakes and frozen treats even bacon and sausage.  You can even get your knives sharpened while you're there.

Roswell's Riverside Farmers Market is open 8am - 12pm Saturdays, rain or shine through September 14 at Roswell City Hall 38 Hill Street Roswell, GA 30075.
