Cobb EMC to Hold Special Meeting Saturday

Members will vote on amending a bylaw which would allow mail-in voting.

Cobb EMC members will get some bylaw say-so during a special meeting tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 17 at Piedmont Baptist Church.

All Cobb EMC members will get the chance to decide whether or not they want mail-in voting for board member elections during tomorrow's special meeting.

However, several members frustrated with the lawsuits and indictments leveled at the energy provider's current board have formed "Take Back Cobb EMC." They are encouraging all members, including those in Roswell's portion of East Cobb, to tell the utility co-op leadership exactly how they feel and vote "no" on a special amendment to the bylaws tomorrow.

If passed Amendment 1 would allow for mail-in ballot during upcoming board elections.

“If mail-in ballots are allowed for the election process, Cobb EMC’s ability to  spend unlimited amounts of member money on the incumbent’s re-election campaigns will give them a tremendous advantage. Mail-in ballots are a surefire way to stack the deck against thousands of Cobb EMC members and keep them from winning the new, accountable leadership they deserve,” said Joel Mendelson, campaign coordinator for "Take Back Cobb EMC." “Voting for an in-person ballot is our best chance to level the playing field for challengers to take on the entrenched board.”

The meeting's schedule is as follows:
