N. Fulton Veterans Recognized with Old Soldiers Day Parade

The theme for the 59th Annual Parade was "My Flag, My Country: Worth Fighting For"

The 59th Annual Old Soldiers Day Parade was held in Alpharetta on Saturday.  Hundreds lined the parade route down Main Street and Old Milton Parkway to honor the men and women who have served in our nation's armed forces, as well as to remember the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001.

The Old Soldiers Day celebration grew out of an annual gathering of Confederate Civil War veterans.  The event expanded to include veterans of World War I in the early 1920's.  Reborn in 1952, the annual parade now honors and remembers all of our nation's veterans.

This year's keynote speaker was Brian Stann who was commissioned as a 2nd. Lt. in the Marine Corps upon graduating from the United States Naval Academy.  He served two combat tours in Iraq where he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry.
