Trapped Motorcyclist Flown to Grady; Son Suspected in Mom's Murder Arrested

 - Canton-Sixes Patch

When  and  crews Wednesday morning responded to an accident that temporarily shut down Reinhardt College Parkway near Hickory Nut Drive, they found a 22-year-old woman trapped under a pickup truck.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist who had to be pulled from under the pickup truck has been identified as Stephanie Marie Christ, 22, of Canton. The 62-year-old driver of the Chevrolet S-10 truck is Larry Richard Mason, 62, of Waleska.

"She was operating a 2005 Buell Blast and pulled from Hickory Nut and into the path of the eastbound Chevrolet S10 truck," GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said.

The woman was flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta where she was listed in critical condition. .

 - Lawrenceville Patch

The man wanted in connection to the  has been arrested.

Gwinnett County Police Department's Cpl. Jake Smith confirmed that Mark Wilson, 42, was arrested Wednesday at about 6:40pm.

Officers found a champagne colored 2006 Toyota Camry reported missing from the home of Phyllis Wilson, 72, at a QuickTrip at the intersection of Grayson Highway (S.R. 20) and Simonton Road. This was less than two miles away from the crime scene. Wilson was taken into custody without incident. 

Mrs. Wilson was found dead in her home at 1139 Simonton Glen Way Tuesday morning by her husband and caretaker..

 

 - Sandy Springs Patch

A 67-year-old female pedestrian was fatally injured, Tuesday evening, when an SUV struck her on Roswell Road, near Hightower Trail. She was taken to North Fulton Hospital where she died from severe head injuries.

WSB-TV identified the victim as Lanzhen Pan, a Chinese immigrant living in a nearby building for senior citizens. 

Police are looking for a dark colored SUV that contained a white female passenger.


 - Marietta Patch

Two Marietta men were arrested Tuesday, concluding a two-month copper theft investigation by .

John Riley, 24, and Stanley Ledford, 50, were caught in the act of stealing copper at the Georgia Power Facility located 1769 Sands Place. They were arrested on Sept. 11 at around 4:45 a.m.

Evidence recovered at the scene linked the two suspects to seven burglaries at five other locations. .

 

 - East Cobb Patch

With enrollment in the  higher than anticipated, the Cobb Board of Education voted Wednesday to hire 30 additional teachers to ease large class sizes in some schools. 

The 7-0 vote at the board's monthly work session came after a brief discussion, with comments stressing the urgency of getting the new teachers in place as soon as possible. 

The cost for the new positions is $2.2 million, with the money to come from the district's fund balance. .
