Orange Smog Alert Issued for Today

Today's air in the metro area is considered unsafe for certain groups.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has issued a Code Orange Smog Alert for all of metro Atlanta, including Roswell, today. 

According to the alert, because of predicted concentrations of ground-level ozone, the air is considered unsafe especially for those who already have respiratory issues. Though factors are working against clear air, there are ways to help improve air quality even on days like today, according to leaders from The Clean Air Campaign.

To help improve air quality, the campaign recommends a reduction in driving, since half of all smog-forming emissions come from the tailpipes of cars in metro Atlanta. To keep cars off the road:

  • Commuters can carpool, vanpool, walk, cycle, ride transit or telework.
  • Parents can walk with children to school, look into riding the school bus or make sure children's school participate in the Clean Air School program.
  • Business can encourage alternative commuting options, offer incentives to use clean commutes and even get free consulting services from the campaign for doing it.
