Roswell Resident Receives Nursing Award

Melissa Schinck will get to attend nursing conference of her choice.

Roswell resident, Melissa Schinck, was recently presented the Laura Snitzer-Boozer Nursing Award for her professional excellence and leadership in pediatric cancer care.

Schinck - a registered nurse at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service for the past three years - is one of only two nurses to receive the award this year.

“I am honored to be recognized for my work, especially when I work with such an amazing and hardworking group,” said Schinck, who received her Masters of Science in Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia.

The award provides financial support for continued education in the field of oncology. It's given in memory of Laura Snitzer-Boozer, an Aflac Cancer Center nurse who died unexpectedly in 1999. After Snitzer-Boozer’s death, many individuals including close friends of the family, donated funds to create the Laura Snitzer-Boozer Nursing Fund for Continued Education.

Schinck will receive a scholarship to attend the nursing conference of her choice in honor of Laura Snitzer-Boozer’s strong commitment to nursing education.
