Three Roswell Soldiers Among Iraq War Casualties

The 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq began 10 years ago this week on March 19 and although officially "over," fighting continues with discouraging persistence.

Three Roswell soldiers are listed among the casualties of the Iraq War.

The U.S-led invasion of Iraq began 10 years ago on March 19, 2013. By one count, the war is directly responsible for 189,000 deaths, not including those who died from hardship caused by the fighting.

In all, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, including 141 Georgians.

Among them are three soldiers from Roswell. From the CNN war casualties website:

  • Spc. Jamall Rashard Addison, 22, one of nine soldiers killed when their convoy was ambused near Nasiriya, Iraq on March 23, 2003.
  • Cpl. Richard Oscar Quill III, 22, died of non-hostile cause in Anbar province, Iraq on Feb. 1, 2007.
  • Gunnery Sgt. Aaron Michael Kenefick, 30, one of three Marines and a Navy corpsman killed when their joint U.S.-Afghan unit was ambushed near Ganjal in the Kunar province of Afghanistan, Sept. 8, 2009.
