Winter Begins Today

Winter solstice gives locals a time for reflection during service at Roswell Presbyterian Church tonight at 7 p.m.

Winter has officially arrived. Today, Thursday, Dec. 22, marks both the start of winter and the longest night of the year.

The shortened day - also known as winter solstice - has historically been celebrated by many throughout the world as the point in which the sun returns and the days begin to get progressively longer.

Locally, will hold its own worship service to commemorate the day. "The Longest Night - A Service of Hope in the Midst of Darkness" will allow time for a meditative look back on the year during this busy holiday season. The service begins tonight at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary, 755 Mimosa Boulevard.
