Celebrate Chinese New Year

Celebrate Chinese New Year

Atlanta – Amy Meadows, award-winning local
author of Emma’s American Chinese New Year, will speak on the Chinese New
Year at two upcoming events. Amy will read and discuss her book at the Roswell
Library on Wed. Feb. 13 from 4-4:45 pm and at Peerless Book Store on Sat. Feb.
23 at 1:30 pm.

Emma’s American Chinese New Year is
a picture book about a little girl who was adopted from China by parents in the
U.S. and is celebrating Chinese New Year with her family. Children will learn
about the foods eaten, gifts given and activities enjoyed as they mark the
holiday in the U.S. Chinese New Year is celebrated from Feb. 9-24 and heralds
the Year of the Snake.

Children will also make a Chinese
lantern which they can take home, along with a Chinese New Year’s treat. The
multicultural event will include a discussion to find out if the children know
anyone who is from another country and to locate the place on a large map.

Emma’s American Chinese New Year won
a bronze medal from the 2012 Moonbeam Children’s Awards, “celebrating youthful
curiosity, discovery and learning through books and reading.” This is Amy’s
first book (www.emmainamerica.com).
