We have the perfect Valentine's gift: the gift of giving back.

On Feb. 14, registration opens for the 4th Annual Sweep the Hooch event. It's a day for everyone to come together to help protect our precious water resources.

The event takes place April 12, 2014.

During the event, teams will work throughout 27 sites along the Chattahoochee River within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

This year, there are several new sites: Georgia State Park site (Sweetwater Creek, Chattahoochee Bend, and Don Carter), plus Gwinnett County (Jones Bridge) and Riverview Landing in Mableton.

In 2013, more than 550 volunteers collected 3.7 tons of river refuse with more than half a ton of trash recycled. Check out some of the highlights here.

Register and learn more about the 2014 cleanup at the official site: www.sweepthehooch.org.
