Roswell Mayor Issues Water Conservation Challenge

Are you up to the challenge? Prizes from national businesses are up for grabs.

How can you cut back on water usage?

According to Roswell Mayor Jere Wood there are plenty of ways you can conserve water and he's hoping local residents are up to the challenge of taking shorter showers, fixing leaky water pipes and only running full loads of dishes and laundry as part of the National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, according to a city press release.

"The city of Roswell has always been committed to conserving our natural resources and being a good steward of the environment," Wood said.

The challenge’s mission is to promote resource conservation and the importance of sustainability leading up to and throughout Earth Month, according to information provided by the city. The challenge has been sponsored by the Wyland Foundation and Toyota.

Roswell residents are encouraged to sign a pledge online to conserve water and resources between April 1-30. Residents who make the commitment are entered to win hundreds of environmentally friendly prizes, including a Toyota Prius c, water saving fixtures and gift cards to Lowe’s.

"I am excited to issue this challenge and hope it will help create additional momentum within our community to be aware of how our everyday actions impact our sustainability, both locally and nationally," said Wood.

The challenge is supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National League of Cities, CH2M Hill's WaterMatch, Rain Bird Corporation, U.S. Forest Service and Lowe’s, Inc.

Last year, residents who participated in the challenge pledged to reduce their water use by 4.7 billion gallons. For more information, contact Julie Brechbill at 770-594-6416 or jbrechbill@roswellgov.com.
