Roswell Karate Kids to Hold 'Break-A-Thon' Fundraiser

Students from the Dojo American Karate Centers in Crabapple are teaming up with North Fulton Community Charities.

Thanks to CR Munhall for the photos and information about the 3rd annual "Break-a-Thon" charity fundraising event next weekend by the Dojo American Karate Centers in Crababble.

The youngsters there are teaming up with North Fulton Community Charities, and Munhall says last year's event raised $5,646 to directly aid families in Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park and Roswell:

This year we are anticipating over 40 Dojo students getting a chance to break real wood boards to help “Break Through Hunger” in their community. Last year over 2000 boards were broken. The Dojo students, mostly children ages 3 to 12, volunteer their time to contact family, friends and neighbors to ask for pledges. The donors promise a dollar amount for each board that is broken at the event.

According to Vonda Malbrough, the Development Director for NFCC, "We are very grateful to the Dojo and its students. Each year the Dojo makes a sizable donation for a small business and they were the first martial arts school to donate in the 28 year history of the organization."

The NFCC sees an average of 112 families a day and provides aid with rent, utilities, medical expenses, transportation and other basic needs on an emergency basis. In 2012 the NFCC provided over $1.2 million in financial assistance to more than 4,914 families.

Mr. Teron Harvey, the Director of the Crabapple Dojo, feels that “the martial arts is more than just kicking and punching. It’s about giving back not only in teaching but also in your community efforts.” Over the years The Dojo has made a real impact in the community by forming several philanthropic partnerships. It also supports Roswell with annual food drives, Toys for Tots, silent auctions and volunteers time to many schools and churches.
