Flipping vs. Rehabbing: Investing in Real Estate

What is the difference between flipping a house and rehabbing a house?

Flipping denotes buying a property and quickly reselling for a profit. Buying below market value and then selling for more is a way to invest in real estate and make money.

Rehabbing is similar, but takes more effort. In addition to finding a house with potential, a buyer must evaluate what the property needs done to improve the value. Some folks do the work themselves – and some pay to have the improvements made. When the house is fixed up, it can be sold (hopefully) for a profit.

Both activities involve some risk – and not everyone is cut out to be a real estate investor. However, there is money to be made if you have the right skills.

Among other things, we talked about how he got started, his best and worst investments, his thoughts on the current real estate market and its future. John also offers advice for others who would like to begin investing in real estate.
