Baby Stuff: Rocket Science?

Can't they make it any easier?

Modern-day baby gear truly is a marvel in modern science, allowing you countless options in wearing your baby, transporting your baby, feeding your baby, getting your baby to sleep and wiping your baby's butt. Of course, this is all new to me and I'm slowly realizing it takes a degree in astrophysics to figure out how to actually use any of this stuff.

I was excited to get one of those wraps that allows you to wear your baby like a hefty Louis Vuitton bag. But after staring at it for a while in my sleep-deprived haze, I realized my mind was never going to be able to grasp the concept of this wrap; specifically, how to wrap it around myself and baby without him crashing to the floor the second I stood up.

I was also excited when I got one of those Ergo carriers. It provides a more rugged/masculine look and I figured I could use it while hitting the hiking trails in an attempt to kill two birds with one stone: bond with my son while eliminating the weight he packed onto my frame. I was able to figure this one out until it came to the "infant insert," or the extra padding required to cart around a newborn. I couldn't get the insert and the baby into the carrier correctly. Luke did not appreciate my futile attempts that resulted in smashing his tiny precious face into my chest.

I could go on and on about my husband and my Three Stooges-esque adventures with the stroller, the car seat, etc. But the point is this: is there any way these tools could come with a simpler design/execution? I don't really have time to take a college course in baby accoutrements between spit-up, diapers and wailing. Especially on days like today, when I've been lucky enough to experience the triple play: pooped on, peed on and puked on all in the same day!
