Chattahoochee Nature Center to Hold 'Nutty Nature Day'

Imagine a man balanced on a small, thin board while performing rope tricks and juggling the ten most dangers objects in history - that's just one of the exciting things you'll witness during the "Nutty Nature Day" at the , Saturday, Sept. 15.

Nutty Nature Day runs 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and includes "The Flying Debris Show" with Todd Key, a "tree man" performance, story time, craft time and a scavenger hunt.

Todd Key, of the Flying Debris Show, answered these questions about his act:

What is the wildest thing you have ever juggled? 

"I have juggled all the dangerous objects like torches, knives, etc...., but the weirdest thing I've ever juggled is Spam out of the can.  Naked Spam is really difficult to juggle because it has that slippery jelly stuff coating it."

Why do you juggle? 

      “I've never wanted a normal "desk" job.  I was a Theatre major in college and wanted to perform for a living.  When I discovered that it's nearly impossible to make a living as an actor I started to explore other forms of performance.  I had dabbled with some juggling shows while I was in college and discovered "variety performance" is a niche that actually pays well.  It's also a lot of fun.” 

When did you start juggling?

      “I learned basic three ball juggling when I was a senior in high school, and when I went to college I was cast in a couple children's theatre shows that needed juggling, so I practiced until I could juggle the clubs and could ride a unicycle.”

What is the most interesting place you have performed?

“I have performed at the White House for President Obama, which was very interesting, but by far the most interesting were 15 shows at different bases in Afghanistan and 20 shows at different bases in Iraq for our troops. Those shows were simply amazing. I'll never forget that experience. Our troops rock!!!”

What can I expect during Nutty Nature Day?

The Flying Debris Show - 12 p.m.; 1:30 p.m.

The Flying Debris Show will keep you laughing while performing stunts that almost defy gravity.

The Tree Man will perform at - 2:30 p.m.

You sit to enjoy the shade from a large oak tree. Wait a moment - did the tree just move? Meet the Tree Man! Even though he is over twelve feet tall, this gentle giant is full of surprises. Be sure to bring your camera for this "tree-riffic" opportunity!

Miss Julia’s Storytime - 3 p.m.

You only thought you knew Nursery Rhymes. Before Miss Julia is through, you will laugh and learn about the nature that lives on in favorite childhood fables.  

Tree Faces - 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

Give your trees a winning personality! Make faces in the Nature Exchange that you can take home and use to decorate your favorite trees.
