Harry Potter and Me

What does the final Harry Potter film have in common with my new humorous, supernatural e-short story, "Follow an Angel?"

July 15 marks the release of the final Harry Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” It also marks the official release of my new humorous e-short story, Follow an Angel, the second story in my Angel Trilogy.

Coincidence? I think not.

I saw Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe earlier this month in the Broadway production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” I am planning to see the blockbuster movie in Roswell as soon as it opens.

Serendipity? Maybe. What do the two works have in common? Magic, supernatural style.

Everyone is familiar with the Harry Potter movies and there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the opening. Let me tell you something about my supernatural story.

In Follow an Angel, Eden Eastman is giving up on love. “Is Anybody Out There?” is the question Eden tweets from a trendy bar in New York where she’s been stood up by an otherwise promising blind date. But be careful what you tweet for. Despairing she’ll ever find her soul mate, she flees New York City, the land of bad dates, for the Atlantic coast of Florida, where she hopes to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. When an angel on a mission hears her cry for help and drops into her 5th floor beach condo, all heaven breaks loose.

“Follow an Angel” has a high-tech feel, features an angel that looks like a vampire and a surprise ending. Although humorous, the story touches on the serious universal themes of love and loneliness and finding your soul mate.

And guess what? I’ve discovered that my story has the ability to make grown men cry. So far, two guys have told me the story either “gave me a lump in my throat at the end,” or “jerked tears from my eyes. Totally unexpected.” Eat your heart out, Harry Potter.
