A Grand Old Flag

Even trees down on many roads after storms the evening before, didn’t stop the second annual Roswell Flag Day Celebration at Bulloch Hall on June 14th .  Hosted by the Martha Stewart Bulloch Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Martha Stewart Bulloch Children of the American Revolution Society (C.A.R.), it was a time of recognition and celebration followed by food and games for all.

The program began with the award winning Piedmont Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard “Presenting the Colors” and C.A.R. Society President Ryan Kelly leading the audience in a special Flag Day prayer.  Roswell Mayor Jere Wood presented DAR Regent Donna Owens and C.A.R. Senior President Paula Nelson with a National Flag Day Proclamation commemorating the 236th anniversary of the official adoption of the United States Flag on June 14, 1777.

Retired Staff Sgt. David Thompson and Mayor Wood each received a DAR National Flag Certificate of Award for their promotion and support of the Flag of the United States.

Following the ceremony, everyone enjoyed an afternoon of refreshments, games, and craft projects.  The Piedmont SAR Chapter displayed their traveling trunk show of Colonial America memorabilia and SAR Terry Manning presented a selection of books, about American history, for sale to the public.

This patriotic and fun-filled event ended with every child receiving an American flag and an assortment of patriotic souvenirs.
