KSU Athlete to Be Remembered in Roswell

Family and friends of Kennesaw State track and field athlete Jonathan Garner will gather at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell.

A celebration of life will be held tonight for Kennesaw State track and field athlete Jonathan M. Garner, who died of unknown causes just days before Christmas.

It was one week ago today that family members of the 18-year-old freshman gathered in Walnut Grove, Miss., for his funeral.

However, organizers of tonight's service at Roswell's Zion Missionary Baptist Church want people to "share in the memories, stories and praise among family and friends," according to an announcement on Facebook.

The celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. in the church's main sanctuary, 888 Zion Circle.

When Kennesaw State announced Garner's Dec. 21 passing, school officials said the Kennesaw State University Athletic Association was working with Garner’s family to hold an on-campus memorial service in his honor.
