Sandra Crews Bastianello, 63, Teacher and Counselor

A funeral mass for Sandra "Sandi" Crews Bastianello of Roswell will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church. 

Mrs. Bastianello, 63, died Saturday after an extended illness. 

She is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Arthur G. Bastianello, and two children, Laura M. Blanton of Fort Collins, Colo., and Cynthia B. Matthews of Marietta.

She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crews of Little River, S.C.; two brothers, Howard "Sonny" Crews Jr. and David Crews; her two sons-in-law, Scott C. Blanton and David T. Matthews; and her two grandchildren, Dominic R. Blanton and Abigail M. Blanton.

Mrs. Bastianello was born Sandra Crews in Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1950 and received her undergraduate degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned master's degrees in education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., and counseling from Georgia State University in Atlanta. 

She participated in a doctorate program at Nova Southeastern University in Jacksonville, Fla.

Mrs. Bastianello taught elementary school and was a youth counselor. She had her own counseling practice committed to play therapy and helping children work through emotional issues.

She enjoyed walking on the beach collecting shells, gardening, reading, painting, collecting beautiful handmade artwork from her daughter, Cindy, and traveling extensively throughout the world with her husband. She also enjoyed being a grandmother to her two grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Roswell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
