"It has been a very sad day here at the school, but one in which a lot of love and support has been displayed," Principal Kathy Wood told parents in a letter, Tuesday.

According to Wood, the school met separately with each grade to ease students into the news of Passons death. School guidance counselors will continue to meet with students privately and as a group, if and when necessary.

"It is important for you to know that in the immediate period after a loss, it is normal for students who are close to the student and her family to have an increased sense of anxiety about their own and/or parents’ safety and health, sleeplessness, nightmares, lots of questions and sometimes more aggressive play," Wood wrote.

Though some students will recover from the loss quickly, others may take some time to heal.

The school will support the Passons' family by sending meals throughout the year.
