Shoebox Packing Party at the Fickle Pickle in Roswell

Christmas may still be a few months away, but some Roswell volunteers are already thinking about how they can bring hope to needy kids during the holidays.

On Saturday, October 12th, the Fickle Pickle on historic Canton Street in Roswell will fling open its barn doors from 6 to 9 p.m. Everyone who stops by this delectable downtown restaurant during this time will get to indulge in free fried pickles and beverages. But that’s not all they’ll get.

Those who stop by the Fickle Pickle on October 12th will get to pack an empty shoe box full of small and meaningful gifts. During the Christmas season, these gifts will be sent to needy children in over 100 countries around the world – children affected by natural disasters, famine and war.

Last year, the Atlanta area packed and sent over 56,000 shoe box gifts to needy kids, and local volunteers are hoping to give an even greater number this year.

Just because National Collection Week – the time when everyone drops off their shoe box gifts to local collection centers – is November 18-25 this year, isn’t stopping local volunteers from starting to pack already.

“It’s so easy to pack a shoe box gift, “says Erica Spence, a local Operation Christmas Child volunteer. “The sooner we start packing, the more children will receive gifts during the Christmas season.”

The Fickle Pickle barn will be outfitted with everything a person needs to pack a shoe box gift – hygiene items, toys, candy, school supplies, and more. There will also be empty shoe boxes ready to be packed.

“All you need to bring is an appetite for helping kids and eating fried pickles,” says Spence.
