Community Corner

An Open letter to the patrons, staff and family of The Roswell Tap on the occasion of its’ Second Anniversary:

It is rare to find in this age of micro focused entertainment, micro waved food, and minimized expectations a place where tradition holds forth and a sense of camaraderie, esprit de corps and community reigns. For me The Tap is all that and much more.

A little over a year ago, when I was asked to come on board at The Tap, I was intrigued by its origins, so emphatically stated in its motto of BE SEEN, BE HEARD, BE FED. I was enticed by its food menu, which was and still is, an eclectic take on Southern Regional Comfort Food, and I was enamored with the idea of getting back into an industry that I love after a ten year hiatus. The Tap has not let me down!

I have come to find over the past year that The Tap is all that and much more.  It is a place where Fathers and Sons or for that matter Fathers and Daughters gather to watch their favorite College or Pro Football teams play on a crisp, Fall Saturday or Sunday.  It is the place where Teachers from the community schools have chosen to congregate during breaks, at the end of a semester or year’s end. It is the place where couples who are getting married have chosen to have their Bachelor(ette)’s party, rehearsal supper and wedding reception, and in the case of one couple all three were held at The Tap. It is where families dine weekly and feel so at home that they bring their children to The Tap to celebrate New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day. It is the place where music fills the night air beneath a mighty, historic oak tree on a cool Summer evening. It is the place where not one, but two Friendship Bars have been added, so more people can congregate in large groups and where the two-tops are routinely pulled together so a party of 8 or 10 can be seated. It is the “Third Place” where Roswellians  go to fulfill that most human of needs – to interact with others.

For me, The Tap is literally the names, faces and in many cases the warm embrace of hundreds of people I would never have encountered otherwise.

It is a place where the staff has come together and rejected the traditional Back-of-House vs. Front-of-House confrontations and embraced a familial spirit of “One House,”  And in doing so, we hope that we’ve made “our house” so warm and inviting, that you feel that it is now “your house.”

It is the embodiment of the founder’s original vision of a neighborhood restaurant and bar where the whole community gathers to Be Seen, Be Heard, Be Fed! Here’s to many more years of gathering at The Roswell Tap. Cheers!

Sincerely,

Jerome Stuart
