Residents in Georgia, Other States Want To Secede From U.S.

The move, which is gathering steam, is being done in the wake of President Obama's re-election.

Residents of Georgia and more than a dozen other states have filed petitions to secede from the United States, according to media reports.

Residents of Alabama, New York, Michigan, Texas and other states have filed the petitions under the "We The People" program, featured on the White House website, according to the Huffington Post.

The Georgia petition, which already has more than 4,000 signatures, reads in part:

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

The petitions come in the wake of President Obama winning a second term November 6 over Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

According to the Huffington Post, The White House website explains of the review process for "We the People" petitions that get 25,000 signatures in a 30-day period: "If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response."

To the people that don't understand guns. The hk mp5 is a great gun. The Israelite UZI is also good. Us southerners don't mind using any of them to protect our homes. FYI Colt recently left the north and is now setting up shop in business friendly Florida. I think when you Yankees do a little research you'll find almost all the gun companies have relocated to the south. Also almost all fighter jet bombs and munitions are made in the panhandle of Florida. Your jets are worthless without them. Do your research. The north has nothing to offer anymore. You shut down all your factories. You don't produce anything anymore. We all in the south will just buy Mercedes and BMW made in Georgia. You can keep your crappy Chevys

When the views of our federal government don't even begin to line up with the views of the people it is time to take to the streets! Myself and my family would gladly stand on the front line to overcome the immoral regime leading this broken country.

Well it looks as if most of the states are going to stand together by petioning for sucession. Not so much as we all want to actually sucede but to protest the outcome of the election. Perhaps it will make someone stand up and say if there are this many people who don't want Obama as the president then how did he get re-elected, and who actually voted for him. I personally think that the elections was rigged.

Idiots that keep saying a state that leaves the union do not have huge resources to survive are showing their ignorance. Without the huge federal debt burden the state is already ahead. Military? You forget that all military bases in that state become the property of the state, military personnel from that state in all likely hood would serve that state. Most states can support themselves and once recognized by other countries would likely get aid. Revolution is coming folks, better get ready, when the money runs out for the freebies there will be civil unrest. I'm ready in quite a few ways and some of those ways go BANG!

I'm a proud Texan and signed the petition. It is not about seceding, it is about not being heard by this administration. We do not want healthcare forced on us, we do not want to fund abortions, and we want to preserve the traditional family unit. We want the government to secure our borders, we don't want to have to pay for the same failed government programs that are keeping the poor in welfare lines. We don't want people who have stolen over our borders to be granted rights as citizens. We want every state of the Union to have the right to decide what's best for them, and not be dictated to by the federal government.

Southerners, Whatever happened to "America, love it or leave it!" You used to preach that all time. You used to complain about liberals hating this country. You used to remind us all of how this is the greatest country on earth. And now you want to secede? Why? Because a black man was elected for the second time? You're argument doesn't make sense. The "views of the people" support Obama. By the way, were you this upset when Bush "defeated" Gore in 2000 even though he lost the popular vote. The Southern states have resources and patriotic young people. You worry about the drug cartel moving in? I think we could handle that by legalizing pot. You think using our tax money for Obama Phones and selling Global warming credits is good, then you keep them. We are the Americans you have already left us. I think the Southern states could raise a substantial Army as a lot of Southerners serve in the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy and National Guard.

No, we won because we were able to dominate the Hispanic vote, winning 71% of it and because Mitt Romney was a horrible candidate. We were able to portray him as a capitalist vulture, which is what he is. We also won because most people, around 60% according to Pew and Gallup, favor more taxes for the wealthiest Americans. We won because people are scared of the Republican Party and its whole-hearted acceptance of tea party whackos. We won because America is no longer just old, rich, white men. The demographics are changing. As more old people die out and more young people and minorities turn out to vote, the Republican Party as we know it will become a thing of the past and will be forced to move to the left to compete. Mike, You talk about patriotism. Is it patriotic to leave your own country, to turn your back on your own country because you don't like the election results? You Southern hicks don't know the first thing about patriotism. You were traitors and terrorists in 1861 and most of you are traitors and terrorists, especially the ones who signed these secession petitions. Finally, social justice is not socialism. Healthcare that is affordable for all Americans is not socialism. Social Security for the elderly who paid for social security through taxes their entire working lives, is not socialism.

These treasonous people that want to leave the "greatest country" instead of staying and working through our shared problems have none of that. If they're that angry and that willing to fight for what they believe -- then where were they during the Occupy demonstrations, when their anger could have been put to more intelligent use? I'm betting those that want to secede are the ones that also believe the universe was made in six days, women can choose not to get pregnant when they're raped, and trickle down economics work.

Lee, Sorry, "dude", I'm from Chicago. I was just googling "southerners" and "secession" and came upon this article. Also, how is using the term "Southern hick" racist? Do you know what racism is? I am white, and me calling southern secessionists "hicks" is not racism. Now...seceding from the U.S.A. because you cannot stomach the fact that a black man won not once, but twice, now that's racism. Also, Chicago is not a cesspool. It is a world-class city with world-class food and art. It is a community of ethnic neighborhoods and culture, a whole different world from white Anglo-Saxon Georgia. We're proud of hometown boy, Obama. But even if he didn't win, we wouldn't be so stupid, unpatriotic, and treasonous as to secede from the United States of America.
