Traffic in the 21st Century

Roswell has….strike that, Roswell HAD the reputation for years of being ahead of the curve.  Roswell was great at attracting new business, planning communities, environment, safety…the whole nine yards.

Well folks, that was then, back when “Pug” Mabry was in charge.  Since then, Roswell has been resting on its laurels and today…we’re getting beat.   Businesses aren’t starting up in Roswell.  Way too much paperwork and regulation.  They’re going up to Johns Creek now.

Traffic?  Oh lord!  Our city planners have finally figured out the roundabout.  A traffic control technique first used in England for herding sheep.

Why don’t we think of something a bit more modern.  Why don’t we look into alternative vehicles; lower speed, smaller, less expensive vehicles that could reduce emissions, fuel usage, parking and traffic?  Vehicles that could co-exist with the many bicycles we have on our roads?

Many other communities allow golf carts, UTV’s for working, LSV (Low Speed Vehicles) and provide infrastructure for them.  Just think what parking at Home Depot, Publix or Historic downtown if it were filled with vehicles a third the size of cars.  Just think how much safer it would be with vehicles that were designed for slow speed, with better vision and accessibility?

Yet, I called the Roswell Police and asked under what conditions could I use one of these small vehicles to pick up a load of gravel to improve my property and was told that if I got one on Roswell streets, I’d be arrested.  WHY?  Why in the world would we outlaw people bringing smaller, safer, quieter, vehicles into Roswell?  We’re living in the 60’s and it seems that we’re intent on staying there.
