Chipper Jones Starts Fire Near Roswell Home

The former Atlanta Braves star said Wednesday's blaze was an accident after he cleaned out his fireplace.

Former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones won't be a resident of Roswell much longer, but he publicly tipped his cap to city firefighters Wednesday night after accidentally setting the woods on fire near his home.

Jones took to Twitter to explain what happened, and his girlfriend also posted the accompanying photo on the social media outlet:

  • Lol. Tried to do my daily chores and cleaned out the fireplace. Went and dumped the ashes. Alls good right? Nope. Set the woods on fire! Ugh
  • I got firefighters all over my place! Thank you Roswell Fire Dept.

Last fall, Jones put the 23,000-square foot home in the Glenayre in Roswell community up for sale for more than $3 million.

Earlier this month he announced he would be moving his family to the Texas ranch run by his parents.

Not surprisingly, Wednesday's events drew some national media attention
