Community Meeting Tonight Over Suspicious Person Fears

The Roswell Police Department will hold a community meeting tonight, June 1, to discuss reports of a suspicious person and how to keep children safe.

Some local parents are uneasy regarding reports of a suspicious person who has approached Roswell children recently. In an effort to keep everyone informed the Roswell Police Department will hold a community meeting tonight and offer tips on how to keep your children safe.

"First, let me say that we are taking the situation very seriously," Detective Jeff Sanders said in a letter sent to Roswell Patch. "I have received numerous calls from concerned moms and community personnel listing their fears of letting their children play outside."

According to Sanders, the department has only received one confirmed report of a suspicious individual speaking with a local child. He said area reports on the person's vehicle make and model change and even the suspicious individual's description has been reported as three different races.

"The one that concerns me is the individual that spoke to the child," Sanders said. "Individuals can change vehicles, but appearances are little more difficult."

The department is staying proactive by planning community meetings, like the one tonight, and even setting up a to-be-announced Twitter account that will stream live updates as they happen, according to Sanders.
