Crabapple Middle Teacher Resigns After Child Molestation Arrest

Timothy Benton of Roswell was arrested last week by the Fulton County School Police for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

A Crabapple Middle School teacher has resigned after he was arrested last week on child molestation charges.

According to Fulton County Jail booking records, the Fulton County School Police arrested Timothy Benton of Roswell on child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes on May 27.

He was booked into the jail on that same day and was released on a $50,000 bond on May 29.

The Fulton County School System was notified on May 23 of an alleged inappropriate relationship between Benton and an eighth-grade female student, said spokesperson Susan Hale.

The system's Employee Relations Department "acted swiftly with an investigation" and Benton resigned on May 26, she added.

Hale said the Department of Family and Children's Services was also notified of the allegations and Benton's arrest.

"It is extremely disappointing to learn about this unfortunate matter," she added. "The alleged conduct goes against the ethics and morals expected in a system where student safety is a top priority. The alleged behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Fulton County Schools."
