Protect Your Home During Holiday Travel

Vigilance can deter would-be burglars.

With many people traveling during the holiday season, the encourages citizens to stay safe. Follow these tips to keep homes and property secure:

  • Make sure your house appears occupied when you are away.
  • If you will be gone for an extended period of time, stop your newspaper and mail delivery.
  • Ask a friend or neighbor to check on your house periodically.
  • Keep wrapped gifts hidden from the view of any potential burglar.
  • Carefully dispose of gift boxes. Merchandise boxes can indicate the presence of new electronics and other valuables inside the home.
  • Keep doors and windows locked when away from home.
  • Be aware of activity around your home and report suspicious behavior to the police immediately.
