Roswell Hires New Deputy Chief of Police

James Russell "Rusty" Grant joins the department Oct. 1.

Roswell has hired new Deputy Police Chief James Russell “Rusty” Grant to begin serving with the Roswell Police Department on Oct. 1.

Grant, who has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience with particular expertise in investigating violent crime, property crime, drug enforcement and technology, currently serves as the Special Agent in Charge of the Regional Drug Office in Canton for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

He has served with the GBI since 1981. Prior to working for the GBI, he was a deputy for the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office. He is an Adjunct Professor at Columbus State University in the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College Professional Management Program. He also is an instructor in the Chief’s Executive Training Class for the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

Roswell Police Chief Dwayne Orrick said Grant will be a great addition to the Roswell Police Department.

"I’m looking forward to working with Rusty. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him. He is a leader in Georgia law enforcement," said Orrick.

Grant holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University and a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Kennesaw State University.
