Roswell Police K9 Gets Bulletproof Vest

Trouw Nutrition USA and Kevlar for K9s donated the over $800 vest.

The Roswell Police Department is the proud recipient of a new Kevlar bullet proof vest for its K9 officer, Bruno.

The vest, which costs $840, was was donated jointly by Trouw Nutrition USA - a premier supplier of specialty ingredients and nutrients to the U.S. pet food industry - and Kevlar for K9s - a non-profit organization.

Bruno is a dual purpose K9 – meaning that he is trained for patrol functions and narcotics detection. His handler, Officer Greg Cooper, said Bruno will use his new vest for high risk situations, since K9s working in law enforcement are put in mortal danger when they are doing their jobs.

Dogs like Bruno are often left vulnerable to attack while they are guarding territory, looking for criminals, or searching for drugs. Loyal, intelligent and highly trained, these remarkable animals give 100 percent of themselves and 100 percent of their time, unconditionally, according to an RPD press release. The vest will help protect Bruno, while he is out helping the public.
