Suspect May Be Linked to Theft at St. George's Village, Intrusion at Buckhead Facility

Atlanta police release video of intruder, who is believed to have also entered retirement community in Roswell and taken several items.

Atlanta police are looking for a suspect who entered several rooms Friday afternoon at the senior citizens' retirement community at 3100 Northside Parkway.

It's not known if the person, who apparently is familiar with the layout and procedures of the retirement community, took anything from the rooms. The person is believed to have also entered St. George's Village retirement community in Roswell and taken several items.

"It's very disturbing," Zone 2 detective James Polite said. "The elderly are our most vulnerable citizens."

Polite said Sunday night at a press briefing atheadquarters that St. Anne's employees questioned the person, who gave the name Barbara Green. Polite said it's not clear if the suspect is a woman or a man wearing a wig, but employees said the voice sounded like a woman's. He said St. Anne's employee records didn't show that an Barbara Green had worked there.

The suspect, Polite said, is "very comfortable in the building. The person knows where all the cameras are, where all the exits are."

During the briefing, Polite received a call from a ciitzen who had seen a video of the suspect and said he or she resembled a person who took $4,000 from an elderly person in a scam in Roswell.

Polite said the suspect told employees the names of patients and that the suspect had gifts for them at the front desk. The suspect could have taken the names from their door nameplates, Polite said. He urged loved ones of people at the retirement community to check the residents' checks and financial statements to see if anything is missing. He said the suspect might be seeking to commit identity theft.

The suspect wore the medical-style clothing of employees and apparently came in at a shift change to blend in, Polite said. Video taken on a hallway security camera shows the suspect entering and leaving rooms, and the suspect ducks his or her head before coming near the camera, showing a familiarity with the camera location, Polite said.

Video from outside security cameras showed an older model Toyota Corolla leaving the parking lot, Polite said. The color was undetermined.

Anyone with information on the woman can contact Polite at 404-816-7067, or the Crime Stoppers Atlanta hotline at 404-577-8477.
