Woman Attempts Suicide with Household Cleaners

Police were called to a Nesbit Ferry Road apartment, Thursday around 2:30 p.m.

A woman, her child and two officers were treated for injuries sustained due to the household cleaners the woman used in a suicide attempt, Thursday afternoon.

According to Roswell Police Spokeswoman Lisa Holland, when officers arrived to the unit at the Ashley Forest Apartments on Nesbit Ferry Road and kicked in the door, they were overwhelmed by the noxious odor of the chemicals in the apartment, coming from a mixture of household cleaners in a bathtub.

The woman had written a note to her 12-year-old child asking her not to come into the bathroom, according to wsbtv.com.

"The woman is the one that called 911," Holland told Roswell Patch. "She hung up on her first call and then called back whispering. Dispatchers could only assume that she had some sort of medical condition."

The woman, her child and two officers were transported for medical care, reported 11 Alive News.

The Alpharetta HAZMAT unit was called to assist and nearby residents were evacuated while crews removed the chemicals from the apartment.

"The two officers that responded to the 911 hang up call are o.k," Holland said. "They were checked out at the hospital and released."

Holland said the woman could face charges such as reckless conduct and child endangerment when she recovers from the ordeal. Detectives are still following up on this case.
