Afternoon Commute Will be a Soggy Mess Thursday

Severe thunderstorms are part of a hazardous weather outlook that says there will be an 80 percent chance of rain at 4 p.m., and rising to 100 percent soon after.

Roswell could be hit by severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and this evening, according to the National Weather Service. With an 80 percent chance of precipitation at 4 p.m., and rising to 100 percent through the evening, expect to get wet if you go outside.

With a south wind 5 to 15 mph, and gusts as high as 20 mph today, the rain won't be coming straight down at times. Even this evening the gusts could reach 15 mph.

The National Weather Service said, "some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall" tonight. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible.

Overnight, showers and possibly a thunderstorm are in the forecast between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., then showers and thunderstorms are likely after 3 a.m. The low will be around 54.

After a chance of showers before 8 a.m. Friday – just 30 percent – the day should turn out nice and sunny, if a bit windy. The high will be near 71 degrees, with west winds 10-15 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph. The low Friday will be a bit cooler, dropping to around 41 degrees. The wind will slow down to 5-10 mph, with gusts reaching 20 mph.

It will be sunny, slightly windy and warm with a high of 72 on Saturday, and up to 76 on Sunday. That should make theΒ 3rd Annual Sweep the Hooch and Chattahoochee Nature Center's Earth Day Kids Fest pleasant if the 15 mph gusts of wind don't cause too many problems.
