Albers Named Vice Chairman of Senate Finance Committee

Roswell's State Sen. John Albers moves into new role at the Georgia State Capitol.

Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell) has been named Vice Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee for the 2012-2013 Term by the Senate Committee on Assignments.

"I am deeply honored to be elected to serve as Vice Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and I look forward to working with other members of the committee to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability in Georgia," said Albers. "As Vice Chairman, I intend to work tirelessly to support policies which promote economic development and job growth for all Georgians."

Albers will continue to serve as Vice Chair of the following committees: Public Safety and Science and Technology. Albers is also a member of the Senate Ethics Committee and Education and Youth Committee.

"Sen. Albers has displayed great leadership and dedication to our state during his short time as a state senator," said Sen. President Pro Tempore, Tommie Williams. "I am confident that he will be a great asset to the Finance Committee in his new role as vice chairman. I look forward to working with him as we strive to bring fair and innovative tax reform to Georgia."

The Senate Finance Committee handles all revenue-related legislation, including revenue collection and how taxes are levied at the state and local level. In addition, the Senate Finance committee also provides oversight to the Department of Revenue.

The 153rd Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly will convene Jan. 9, 2012 at the State Capitol.
