Candidates Jump Into Roswell City Council Races

Qualifying for municipal posts ended Friday, Sept. 2 at the close of business with 10 candidates tossing their hat into the ring, including incumbents.

There are only three posts open on the , but when qualifying opened last week, 10 local residents jumped into the races; and half are gunning for Councilwoman Becky Wynn's Post 2.

Up for grabs are council Posts 1, 2 and 3; currently held by council members Rich Dippolito, Becky Wynn, Betty Price, respectively.

In Post 1 Councilman Rich Dippolito, who qualified Sept. 1, will be in a three-way race to keep his current seat on the council with Mike Nyden, who qualified Aug. 29, and Thomas Shelton, who also qualified on Sept. 1.

The Post 2 seat appears to be the most sought after. Councilwoman Becky Wynn, who qualified Aug. 30, will be racing against Lee Fleck, who qualified Aug. 30, Salma Ahmed, who qualified Aug. 31, Michael Martin, who qualified Aug. 31, and Adam Braund, who qualified Sept. 2.

For the Post 3 seat Councilwoman Betty Price, who qualified Aug. 29, will go head-to-head with Craig Voth, who qualified Sept. 2.

Incumbent Judge Maurice Hilliard was the only candidate to qualify for the municipal judgeship reelection.
