Council to Decide Funding Design of the Ga. 400 Big Creek Bridge Project on Monday

The Roswell City Council will review a recommendation by the city's Transportation Committee for the design phase of a new bridge over Ga. 400.

could be one step closer to building a new bridge over Ga. 400 after its next Monday night meeting.

The council will look at a recommendation made Wednesday morning by the city's transportation committee to approve a $2.4 million contract for Gresham, Smith and Partners to design Ga. 400's Big Creek Bridge project.

The design would include a new local road over Ga. 400, north of Holcomb Bridge Road, with no access to the highway. It would function as a connector for drivers on Holcomb Bridge Road to "by-pass" the busy Ga. 400 interchange at exit 7.

The Roswell Neighbor reports that the city has only budgeted $1.4 million for the design, which means it would need to find nearly $1 million more to reallocate toward the project.

The large scale project will take several years to design and get all the permits necessary to move forward, including having environmental studies done. Acenbrak said construction on the project would not realistically begin for another four to five years from now, even if council approves the initial design Monday night.
